Bowfell is a Lake District fell of 902.9 m in Cumberland, Westmorland and Furness. Only five of the register's England hills are higher.
It overtops all four of its nearest neighbours; the tallest of them, Esk Pike, reaches 885 m. It stands 251.9 m above its nearest neighbour, Rossett Pike, 1.2 km to the north. Of the register hills in Cumberland, Westmorland and Furness, only Helvellyn stands higher. Its key col leads to Scafell Pike, not to its nearest higher summit, Ill Crag. Its nearest higher summit, Ill Crag (930.9 m, 2.3 km west), is a listed top not profiled here. Its drop of 148.2 m makes it a Hewitt but is short of the 150 m a Marilyn needs. It falls on two OS 1:50,000 sheets, 89 and 90.
